1- Prof. Mazin Qumsiyeh (who lives in Bethlehem, in the West Bank of occupied Palestine) is founder and volunteer director of the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability, Bethlehem University (PIBS see: palestinenature.org). He is author of 300 scientific papers, over 30 book chapters, and many books on areas ranging from biodiversity conservation to genetics to human rights to popular resistance. In retirement, he has time to follow the politics and economics of the Middle East. His partner Sandra is a psychologist and Palestine activist.

2) Sharon Abreu & Michael Hurwicz: Peace activist Jewish American singers/musicians, performing music and songs of peace as the Irthlingz Duo since 1998; Sharon is a longtime peace and environmental educator who composed “Peace For All Time,” a choral work setting much of President John F. Kennedy’s June 10, 1963 ‘peace speech’ to music; Michael’s book about his father, “Leonid Hurwicz: Intelligent Designer: How War and the Great Depression Inspired a Nobel Economist,” was published in 2023. Sharon and Michael have brought their music and songs to International Peace Wave and World Beyond War’s conference events, to the March on the Pentagon, and to the World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa.

Mini-bio of our main speaker: Prof. Michael Nagler, Ph.D.
As Professor Emeritus of Classics and Comparative Literature at UC, Berkeley, Michael Nagler co-founded the Peace and Conflict Studies Program. He was the recipient of the Jamnalal Bajaj International Award for “Promoting Gandhian Values Outside India” in 2007.  He co-founded the Metta Center for Nonviolence in 1983 and continues to dedicate his life to the values of meditation, spirituality and nonviolence with a particular appreciation for the role of science (as the son of a biology teacher). He is co-host of Nonviolence Radio, a popular radio show and podcast for nonviolence exploration and a sought-after speaker for academic and other audiences. His books include The Search for a Nonviolent Future: A Promise of Peace for Ourselves, Our Families, and Our World; The Nonviolence Handbook: A Guide for Practical Action; Looking for Light; and The Third Harmony: Nonviolence and the New Story of Human Nature. Most recently, he directed and produced a documentary with that title.
