URGENT Addendums/Updates to our proposed GIPA roadmap project, link below:

June 15, 2025 UPDATE

As an urgent addendum to our below-proposed GIPA roadmap project, we call for an immediate ceasefire on both sides (Israel/U.S. and Iran), while also urging an immediate return to diplomacy, especially between the U.S. and Iran.

June 24, 2025 UPDATE

Hoping that the announced ceasefire is not violated (especially by Israel), we now re-emphasize, re-urge, and repeat our hoped-for principled (preferably)"Vatican-mediated" return to morally guided peace-seeking "global" diplomacy, in order to begin the painful process of healing the conflict reliably and durably--as our GIPA roadmap project (see below) has proposed.

Oct. 10, 2025 UPDATE

While the ceasefire seems to be holding, still, the cruel return of the UN and EU sanctions (coupled with the continued American/Israeli military threats--and the "further maximum pressure" diplomatic/economic sanctions) continue to mainly hurt the Iranian people--and the prospects for peace--while the "psychological warfare" campaign (with the help of AI) by all sides of the conflict continues.

On behalf of the Peace-seeking Iranian Veterans,

Moji Agha (author of the GIPA "roadmap" proposal)

TOPIC: Another U.S./Israel & Iran war? Latest Regional Dynamics, Including Returned UN Sanctions on Iran, Gaza, Russia & Armenia

GUEST SPEAKER: David Barsamian >>> Internationally known Armenian- American author of several books with Prof. Noam Chomsky; Founder of Alternative Radio: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Barsamian; Writer, public speaker, and analytical & investigative journalist; Seasoned peace and justice activist--who joins us in saying: NO IRAN WAR!

Summary

Bilingual Peace Forum on Iran

The meeting focused on a bilingual town hall gathering organized by peace-seeking Iranian veterans, discussing U.S.-Iran relations and regional dynamics. Moji Agra welcomed participants and introduced David Barsamian, founder of Alternative Radio, as the distinguished guest. The discussion covered recent UN sanctions on Iran, Gaza, Russia, and Armenia, and emphasized the importance of avoiding war with Iran. Participants included individuals from various locations, including Iran, the U.S., and Europe, with Kat serving as the chat monitor. The meeting aimed to foster peace and understanding between the U.S. and Iran, with a focus on avoiding conflict.

U.S. Policy in the Middle East

David discussed the troubled history of the Middle East, highlighting wars, occupations, and the dominance of Israel backed by the U.S. He emphasized the need for U.S. policy changes to achieve peace, justice, and stability in the region, while addressing the unresolved issue of Palestine. Moji translated David's statements into Persian, and both discussed the historical context of U.S. involvement in the Middle East, particularly focusing on World War II and post-war planning, which included securing oil supplies from the region.

U.S.-Saudi Oil Deal History

David and Moji discussed the historical relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia, focusing on President Franklin Roosevelt's meeting with King Abdulaziz ibn Saud in 1945. They highlighted the deal struck between Washington and Riyadh, where the U.S. gained total access to Saudi oil in exchange for protecting the Saudi monarchy. David quoted George Kennan, a senior U.S. State Department official, who emphasized the need for the U.S. to maintain its economic disparity and power over other nations, advocating for a pattern of domination without idealistic slogans. Moji translated Kennan's words into Persian, emphasizing the focus on maintaining power and control over global resources.

U.S.-Iran Relations: Historical Context

David discussed the historical context of U.S.-Iranian relations, highlighting Operation Ajax in 1953, which overthrew Prime Minister Muhammad Mossadegh and restored the Shah to power. He emphasized that understanding current events requires knowledge of past actions, including U.S. military alliances in the Middle East and the concept of "Local Cops on the Beat," which delegated regional tasks to non-Arab states like Iran, Pakistan, Israel, and Turkey. David also referenced George Orwell's quote, "Who controls the past controls the future, who controls the present controls the past," to stress the importance of accurately understanding historical events to grasp current situations, particularly regarding Iran's role in U.S. foreign policy since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iran-Iraq War and Media Influence

David and Moji discussed the historical context of Iran's 8-year war with Iraq, which resulted in significant casualties and left a lasting impact on the country. They explored Washington's policy of opposing sovereign, self-sufficient nations, citing the example of Iran, and highlighted the concept of "worthy and unworthy victims" as described by Chomsky and Herman. The conversation also touched on the role of media in shaping public opinion and the negative effects of sanctions on the Iranian population, emphasizing the need for peace and justice activists to resist these inhumane measures.

Iran-Israel Tensions and Nuclear Dispute

David and Moji discussed the complex relationship between Iran and Israel, highlighting Israel's history of making alarmist claims about Iran's nuclear capabilities since 1992, which have proven inaccurate. They noted that despite Iran's compliance with the JCPOA nuclear agreement, it was unilaterally abrogated by Trump, leaving the U.S. with limited policy options and increasing the risk of military confrontation. The discussion emphasized the need for the peace and justice community to remain vigilant about the possibility of U.S. military action against Iran, while also acknowledging the suffering of the Iranian people under sanctions.

U.S. Foreign Policy and Iran

The meeting focused on U.S. foreign policy and recent actions against Iran, with David providing historical context and Mike comparing the U.S.'s actions to Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. The discussion included a comparison of U.S. foreign policy to the Godfather film, emphasizing how countries must obey U.S. demands to avoid repercussions. Lynn commented on the normalization of U.S. aggression both domestically and internationally under the current administration. The conversation ended with a question from an Iranian participant about practical steps to prevent future U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, highlighting the ongoing tensions and concerns about U.S. foreign policy in the region.

Iran's Complex Political Landscape

David expressed concerns about the current U.S. administration's reliance on military force to address political issues, warning that this approach could lead to increased violence and a more dangerous global situation. Moji, who identified as an average Iranian, discussed the complex views of Iranians regarding their government and external interventions, emphasizing that while many are critical of both the regime and foreign bombings, there is a need to address both internal despotism and external colonialism. David noted the particular outrage in Iran over the bombing of the Evin prison, which killed nationalist figures, and Moji highlighted the statement of Mostafa Tajzadeh, who condemned the attack and called for regime reform. The discussion underscored the interdependence of the Iranian regime, Israel, and the U.S. as adversaries and the importance of advocating for secular democracy in Iran.

Iranian Artists' Role in Resistance

The meeting focused on the role of artists and poets in Iran's resistance movement, with Sat expressing hope that Iranian artists would continue to inspire and provide hope despite the oppressive regime. Moji, who identified himself as a poet, discussed the challenges faced by artists both inside and outside Iran, including restricted freedom of speech and lack of media outlets. The conversation also touched on the need for nonviolent resistance and the importance of peace movements, with Moji emphasizing the role of artists in advocating for change.

Nonviolent Resistance: Challenges and Strategies

The discussion focused on the effectiveness of nonviolent resistance, with participants sharing perspectives on its challenges and historical examples. Lynn emphasized that being dead renders nonviolence irrelevant, while Paul noted that nonviolent resistance is often on the defensive but can encourage long-term thinking. Paul also referenced William James' concept of the "moral equivalent of war" to highlight the need for moral ways to achieve warrior-like goals. The conversation underscored the ongoing struggle for justice and the importance of persistent effort in achieving improvements, despite current challenges.

Nuclear Proliferation and Policy Implications

The meeting focused on discussing nuclear proliferation, with Moji explaining that Israel likely shares its nuclear capabilities only with regimes that mirror its own colonial and racist policies, such as Viktor Orban's Hungary or Modi's India. Cara emphasized the importance of not escalating problems through nuclear sharing and encouraged acting on principles despite personal risks. The group discussed technical difficulties with recording the session, and Moji promised to upload the Clubhouse recording to YouTube. The conversation ended with participants sharing thoughts on hope and resistance, and a message from Kathy, who attended as a silent witness.
